Living in a country renown for it’s cheese (or fromage), we thought nothing would be able to surprise us in the cheese aisle. Well last Monday while doing the weekly shop in Auchan (Monday night at 7pm is the best time to shop), we were shocked by our latest discovery.
Cheese flavoured with Leffe blonde beer!
We both love cheese. And I love Leffe blonde.
There was to be no debate, irrespective of cost, this block of cheese was going in the trolley.
In fairness, the cost for a 200g block of “specialist” cheese was reasonable – €2.31.
The cheese is light and has a very fine crust (which the dog LOVES by the way). Apparently, the Leffe blonde flavour is added during the ripening process, and then the cheese matures for five weeks. The beer flavour is not overpowering, but there is a subtle bitterness to it.
Perfect to end a meal with.
I just can’t believe it’s Sunday and we still have some left!
